Nigel Xavier, the winner of Netflix's Next in Fashion Season 2, received a cash prize of $200,000 as well as a contract with Rent the Runway to showcase his collection. The 24-year-old designer will soon be launching his brand on the e-commerce platform where people can buy or rent his apparel.
Season two of Next in Fashion is now available on Netflix, introducing viewers to a new group of aspiring fashion designers competing for a $200,000 cash prize and the opportunity to debut their collection on the e-commerce fashion platform Rent the Runway. Similarly, Tan France returns as host and judge for the second season, along with supermodel Gigi Hadid, and a star-studded panel of guest judges that includes Bella Hadid, Donatella Versace, Emma Chamberlain, and Vogue contributing editor Gabriella Karefa-Johnson.
In each episode, the aspiring designers design and sew visionary looks for a variety of themed challenges, ranging from Met Gala-worthy ballgowns to transformation outfits worthy of a Ru-veal on the Drag Race main stage. Finalists Bao Tranchi, Deontré Hancock, and Nigel Xavier were tasked with showcasing a collection of eight looks for the final runway with only three days to prepare and a team of experienced sewers on hand.
The three designers went all out for their collections, but Nigel's Woodstock-inspired looks and impressive showstopper won out, naming the Atlanta-based designer this year's Next in Fashion. Since he also got the contract to display his collection on Rent the Runway, many people wonder if it's available now. Well, let's find it out.
Previously, we touched on Qaysean Williams, Megan O’Cain, Courtney Smith, and Danny Godoy.
Nigel Xavier, the Winner of Next in Fashion Season 2, Received $200,000 in Prize Money as Well as a Contract With Rent the Runway Where He Will Soon Be Introducing His Own Beautiful Collection!
Nigel Xavier's (@nigelxavier_) nostalgic denim styles from the 1990s and early 2000s earned him $200,000 in prize money and a contract with Rent the Runway. While Nigel has not launched his products on Rent the Runway, reports claim that he will soon be launching his own beautiful collection on the platform. In fact, the e-commerce platform has already created a space for his designs on their website.
Rent the Runway is an e-commerce platform that allows customers to rent, subscribe to, or buy designer clothing and accessories where over 700 designers' clothing is available in sizes ranging from 00 to 22. Aside from event clothing, the company also rents everyday clothing, children's clothing, ski apparel, home décor, and accessories such as jewelry and handbags and provides a variety of subscription plans at various prices that can be customized. Jennifer Hyman and Jennifer Fleiss founded the company in November 2009, and it is still in operation today.
Additionally, the 24-year-old designer will also be hosting a Culture + Diversity panel with three of his Next in Fashion co-stars, including Denotré, Desyrée Nicole, and Amari Carter, where each of the designer's looks will be on display, in addition to receiving his upcoming collection launch with Rent the Runway. Additionally, he also has his own streetwear brand, MoonMan, and will undoubtedly design for more A-list celebrities.
Since season two wrapped, Nigel Xavier has also shown his work at CultureCon in New York City, which is described as the go-to conference for diverse creatives and young professionals, and had some of his clothing featured in GQ Magazine. Likely, in a recent interview with Tudum, Nigel discussed his future goals and stated that he intends to try to make his clothing more accessible to the general public, saying,
I get bored of things very easily, so I’m trying to get out of that and grow my mind more on a business level. I see myself more as an artist than a fashion designer. I just want to create art, but I know I need to tap more into that role of being a fashion designer and having a fashion house. I want to leave a legacy here, and this show helped me jump-start it. I need to just follow up with some pressure.
With his distinctive style taking cues from the fashion and music scenes of the 1990s and early 2000s, Nigel Xavier is best known for his patchwork and textile manipulation. And while winning Next in Fashion will undoubtedly propel his career to new heights (the fact that he's already gone from 16k to 162k Instagram followers should be a good indicator), Nigel has already designed for a number of musical clients, most recently to It's a Vibe rapper, 2 Chainz.
