A sixth-round pick of the Rays out of high school, Woods chose not sign and instead attended SUNY Albany. He struggled mightily with his command as a freshman, posting an ERA of 10.98 over 30 innings. He showed improvement as a sophomore, but walks continued to plague him even as a junior this spring. He has a little bit of track record, but most of that track record is negative. Woods has lights-out stuff but doesn't have the ability to use it yet. He can pump his fastball into the mid-90s and shows a powerful, tight-spinning curveball as well as a hard cutter. He has strikeout stuff, and if he can harness it he could be something special. Woods will likely end up in the bullpen given his volatility.
