And you thought his (allegedly) pulling a knife on Dennis Hopper was strange! Uh, buckle your seat belt.
Rip Torn, the 78-year-old Emmy winner and one-time Oscar nominee, was arrested yesterday for breaking into a bank while wasted and (because crazy things always seem to come in threes) carrying a loaded gun. Apparently he entered the Litchfield Bankcorp building in Salisbury, Connecticut through a window that he broke himself. Of course.
Torn will appear in court tomorrow on charges of carrying a pistol without a permit, carrying a firearm while intoxicated, first-degree burglary, first-degree criminal trespass and third-degree criminal mischief.
Mark E. Macomber, the president/CEO of Litchfield Bankcorp, said Torn was found lying on the floor of the bank and that the actor believed he was in his own house, a detail which makes the whole thing just seem sort of sad.
Torn, who is being held on bail for $100,000, has been arrested twice in the past four years, once for drunk driving and hitting a tractor trailer in 2006 and then again for a DUI in 2008.
