“We mourn along with the Wheel High School community following the passing of the School’s band director. Our Thoughts are with his family, friends, and all those who are grieving. School counselors will continue to be available to support students and staff during this difficult time.”

Who was Madison Argo?

Madison Argo was the band director at Wheeler High School in Marietta, Georgia. He instructed the School’s marching band, conducted class bands, and supervised all programs at the School. Wheeler’s band is decorated with programs like Wildcat Pride marching band, three large ensemble classes, color guard, drumline, jazz band, and pep band. It is also honored to be the only local High School band performing at the East COBBER parade recently. Before that, Mr. Argo was band director at Rowlett High School in Dallas, Texas, where he conducted the Honors and jazz bands and instructed the marching band.

Mr. Argo was a native of Alabama. He earned his Bachelor’s in Music Education from Auburn University and a Master’s in Wind Conducting from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. His primary instrument was the Trumpet. The Ball State Band Program said on social media,

“He was a dedicated member of the BSU (Ball State University) staff and a tremendous asset to the BSU Band program. Madison’s sense of humor and boundless energy were contagious.

Madison’s spirit will go on through his students, colleagues, and friends. ”

He had served as an adjudicator and clinician in Georgia, Indiana, Alabama, and Texas. He had performed ‘Five Seasons’ as a member of Cobb Wind Symphony in Mariette, Georgia, at Midwest Clinic, the College Band Director’s National Association Conference (Southern Division), and GMEA In-Service Conference; he presented the session ‘Strike-Up the Stands: Innovative Ideas for Athletic Bands’ at the 2019 GMEA In-Service conference.

He was a dedicated teacher who had a zest for life. His peers describe him as full of life and a burst of energy. He always had a smile on his face, and his laughs were contagious. He loved everyone, and everyone loved him. He significantly impacted the lives of those who had the privilege to know him. His sudden, unexpected death has come as a shock to everyone. The entire community mourns this precious soul taken away well before his time.
