Gautham Menon's film "Nadunisi Naaygal" (2011) depicted the story of a child abuse victim and explored the damaging consequences that follow, particularly towards women. The film achieved above-average performance, but it received mixed reviews from critics who described it as "not suitable for family audiences" and criticized the presence of logical loopholes and doubts in the storyline. A group of protesters even staged a demonstration outside Gautham Menon's residence in Chennai, claiming that certain scenes in the film were against Tamil culture. They objected to the alleged misuse of the name of a goddess, as well as explicit and violent content. However, the protesters were subsequently arrested by the police. In response to the situation, Gautham clarified that the story was based on a true incident and he had no intentions of causing harm. He also mentioned that the film's promotional materials consistently indicated that it was intended for a specific audience, as it had received an "A" certification.
• Legal case against Gautham
In 2012, Gautham Vasudev Menon's production company collaborated with RS Infotainment to produce the Tamil film "Neethaane En Ponvasantham." However, the film received an average response from the audience. Subsequently, a legal dispute arose between the film's producer, Elred Kumar, and Gautham Vasudev Menon in 2013. Elred Kumar and R Jayaraman, the producers, filed a legal case against Gautham Menon and producer P Madan. They claimed that Gautham and Madan had entered into an agreement on November 27, 2008, to make a film with Silambarasan in the lead role and with music composed by A.R. Rahman. This agreement was made during the shooting of the film "Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa" in 2010. However, in December 2010, it was decided that actor Allu Arjun would be cast as the lead instead, with the previous team of technicians. Elred and R Jayaraman alleged that Gautham and Madan had engaged in other projects instead of fulfilling their commitment to make the film for them, despite receiving an advance payment of 40 million. The legal case was filed by Elred and Jayaraman in February 2013, urging Gautham and Madan to either settle the financial matters or proceed with making the film for them based on their business interests. The case was eventually resolved through an amicable settlement between the involved parties. However, the legal troubles had an adverse impact on Gautham Vasudev Menon's ability to release the remaining productions under Photon Kathaas.
• Clash between Gautham and Simbu
Reports surfaced in 2016 regarding a public clash between Gautham Vasudev Menon and actor Simbu (Silambarasan) during the shooting of the film "Achcham Yenbathu Madamaiyada." The film had experienced significant delays, which caused tension between both parties. There were allegations that Gautham had not paid the actor's remuneration, leading to Simbu's absence from the shooting. Gautham blamed the actor for the film's delayed progress, citing irresponsible behavior and failure to show up for shoots. Public disputes between the two ensued. Despite the challenges, the remaining portion of the shooting was eventually completed. However, further difficulties were encountered in securing a release date for the film. Eventually, "Achcham Yenbathu Madamaiyada" was released on November 11, 2016.
• Clash between Gautham and Harris Jayaraj
Gautham Vasudev Menon and music composer Harris Jayaraj made their debut together in the film "Minnale" in 2001. Their collaboration proved successful, leading them to work on several films such as "Kaakha Kaakha," "Pachaikili Muthucharam," "Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu," "Vaaranam Aayiram," and more. Their partnership was considered one of the most successful in the Kollywood industry. However, in 2008, their relationship took a sour turn when Harris publicly announced his separation from Gautham. The specific reasons for their separation were not disclosed by either party.
